Rooted in Berlin's musical legacy

For three decades, a thirteen-foot wall ran through the heart of Berlin, separating two worlds. In its shadow grew one of the most dynamic scenes in popular music history, drawing creatives from around the globe as early as the 1970s, among them David Bowie, Lou Reed and Iggy Pop. In the '80s, acts like Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, Einstürzende Neubauten, Nena and Manuel Göttsching left their mark on new wave, synth-pop and electronic music, and later bands such as U2, R.E.M., Snow Patrol, Pet Shop Boys and Manic Street Preachers came to soak in the city's creative spirit. Beats of Berlin celebrates this legacy, built around the grooves, drummers and songs that shaped the city's musical history.
