Product Description

Area 33 SDX brings together parts of the original Drumkit From Hell team: Meshuggah guitarist Fredrik Thordendal and producer/engineer/mixer Daniel Bergstrand (Behemoth, In Flames, Dimmu Borgir). The result is a 180+ GB sound expansion for Superior Drummer 3, recorded at Thordendal's own studio 33 in Stockholm, Sweden.

Studio 33 was built from the ground up by Thordendal and Bergstrand with the goal of creating a drum room that is spacious and reverberant, yet precise, direct and controlled. The expansion includes seven contrasting and complementing kits along with an extensive pool of additional drums and cymbals: a total of 13 snares, 14 bass drums (double bass drum setups), 42 toms, three hi-hats and upwards of 40 cymbals. Several of the kits are unusually large, featuring up to eight toms, double bass drums and 15 cymbal slots in a single kit.

Each kit was recorded using the classic close-mic technique, plus an additional set of microphones on every position, meaning each drum and cymbal is captured in both mono and stereo. On top of that, the room itself was captured using 11 ambience microphone positions, seven of them in stereo, giving you extensive room to shape the sound within Superior Drummer 3.

Sampled by drummer Leo Margarit (Pain of Salvation). Drum tech and tuning by Urban Näsvall, assisted by Jimmy Pettersson. Each kit ships with ready-made presets engineered by Daniel Bergstrand together with the Toontrack sound design team.
