18" Meinl Anika Nilles Deep Hats

Product Description

The Meinl Anika Nilles Deep Hats is a complete hi-hat concept developed together with drummer Anika Nilles, built around a sound that sits between a hi-hat and a crash. The set consists of two 18" Byzance Vintage cymbals together with an included Meinl X-hat, and suits players who want a wider, more musical hi-hat sound.

Deep Hats is part of Meinl's Artist Concept series, where sounds are developed together with artists based on a specific musical idea rather than a generic product. Anika wanted a sound that moves between a regular hi-hat and a crash cymbal, and Deep Hats is the result of that collaboration.

Sound Character

The combination of the two 18" Byzance Vintage cymbals gives a soft, dark sound with a clear wash and a pleasant amount of trashiness. Anika herself describes it as having "the right amount of wash and trashyness, combined with a soft, dark tone". Exactly the character she wants in her playing.

X-hat for Adjustable Articulation

The included X-hat lets you easily adjust sustain and the amount of trash sound by changing how much the cymbals are allowed to move against each other. This gives you control over everything from a tight, short response to a more open, washy tone, without changing cymbals.

Who It's For

Deep Hats suits players who already use hi-hat and crash but want a third, more nuanced option in between. For example in musical styles that call for a lot of dynamics and variation in the comping.
