The AJ2 American Jazz from Vic Firth starts from a 5A shaft diameter but extends the taper along the neck. That gives you a familiar, well-balanced grip while still delivering noticeably faster rebound than a standard 5A – ideal when you want to play relaxed but still get the cymbals opening up properly.

The thinner, longer neck makes the stick more finesse-friendly and easy to control, which really shows in nuanced comping and dynamic passages. The small, tear drop-shaped wood tip gives a clear, focused attack on cymbals and hi-hats without ever sounding scattered.

The sticks are made from hickory and finished with lacquer, in line with the rest of the American Jazz line, where Vic Firth deliberately chose a long taper to give jazz and lighter-style players a fast, responsive feel. A solid choice if you already play 5A but want more rebound and clarity in your cymbal work.
