Product Description
The Afroton Waterdrum set consists of two gourd bowls in different sizes (Ø 18 and 33 cm), lacquered on the inside for a warm and rich sound. Often called an "underwater bass," it produces a deep, resonant tone unlike anything else in the percussion world.
The instrument is traditionally played by women of the Senufo and Malinke people in Mali, Ghana, and Guinea. The larger bowl is filled with water, while the smaller bowl floats upside down on top of it and is played with the hands or a padded mallet. Changing the water level in the large bowl lets you adjust the pitch and dial in exactly the sound you're after.
