Afroton Shekere 13-15 cm - Powder Blue
Shekere made from a hollow bottle gourd with a net of powder blue plastic beads. Ranges from soft murmurs to a roaring sea sound.
Product Description
The Afroton ACH 720N is a shekere built from a hollow bottle gourd, wrapped in a net of powder blue plastic beads. This traditional instrument comes from Ghana, where it's a staple in West African drum ensembles. Its sound range spans from soft murmurs and hissing waves to a roaring, sea-like rush.
Shaking, twisting or striking the gourd against your hand sets the bead net vibrating against the surface, producing a textured, energizing sound. It's a natural fit for adding rhythmic drive and organic texture to a percussion section without overpowering the groove.
Origin and Tradition
The shekere is a classic West African percussion instrument, traditionally used in drum ensembles in Ghana. This Afroton model follows the same principle: a natural gourd body wrapped in a bead net.
