Afroton 10 Keys
Handcrafted 10-key balafon from Ghana with a warm, friendly tone and pentatonic scale. Mallets included.
Product Description
The Afroton Balafon is a handcrafted melodic percussion instrument from Ghana, featuring 10 keys made of selected hardwood and a warm, friendly sound. Traditionally used by griots. West African bards and storytellers. It's a great fit for curious children over five and enthusiastic adults exploring West African music.
The frame is built from wood, and the keys are made from selected hardwood chosen for its tone and durability. Hanging gourds beneath each key amplify and shape the sound, giving the balafon its characteristic warm, round tone. The scale is West African pentatonic, meaning notes blend freely together, making it easy and rewarding to improvise from the very first try.
The balafon is a traditional instrument of the griots, the West African storytellers and musicians who pass on history and culture through song and performance. Mallets are included with the instrument.
