The Vic Firth Nova 5B Black drumsticks are made from second-grade hickory – the same specifications as the corresponding American Classic model, but a second-grade selection. Nova is Vic Firth's budget series, a solid choice if you want to keep stick costs down without giving up quality.

Every pair is weight-sorted and tone-paired using Vic Firth's own technology, so the two sticks in the pair match each other as closely as possible right out of the packaging. The tip is a wood, tear-drop/oval shape with a medium taper, giving a round, full-bodied feel that works well for practice as well as gigs. The finish is a black lacquer coating.

Vic Firth was founded by Everett "Vic" Firth in 1963, and the sticks have since been used by drummers and percussionists worldwide – from drum kit playing to orchestral and marching percussion.

A good choice if you want reliable sticks at a lower price, or a first pair without sacrificing Vic Firth's quality standard. Not the obvious pick if you specifically want first-grade wood – for that, look at the American Classic series.
