Construction and sound

The cymbal is hand-hammered from B20 bronze. 80% copper and 20% tin. With a traditional finish and hand-lathed top and bottom. The bell is unlathed but hammered, giving the sound a clear, distinct character. Byzance Traditional has a warm, full tone with good dynamic range, letting you shape tone and volume through your playing.

Manufacturing

Byzance cymbals are made at Meinl's Turkish factory using traditional craftsmanship. Each cymbal is cast from B20 bronze, heated, rolled and cooled according to a carefully tested schedule until the correct thickness is reached. The bell is then shaped before hand-hammering gives the cymbal its form, and the surface is hand-lathed before the cymbal is sent to Germany for quality control, sorting and finishing. The Byzance series is also available in Foundry Reserve, Dual, Vintage, Jazz, Extra Dry, Dark and Brilliant finishes, each with its own sound character and look.
