22" Meinl Byzance Dark Big Apple Flat Ride - Dark

Product Description

The Meinl Byzance Dark Big Apple Flat Ride 22" is a hand-hammered ride cymbal in B20 bronze with an unlathed top surface. The small bell gives a clean, focused tone, while the raw surface creates a dry, earthy character with a warm low end. A great choice if you want a ride with quick decay and a distinct, slightly muted sound.

• Hand-hammered B20 alloy (80% copper, 20% tin)
• Unlathed top surface for a dry, earthy tone
• Lathed bottom with traditional finish
• Small bell for a clean, focused sound
• Relatively thin build with pleasant flex under pressure, without taking over the overall sound
• Quick decay and relatively low volume

Sound Character

The Dark finish makes this cymbal somewhat drier than traditional Byzance models, with a warm low end and an earthy, dark tone. Decay is quick and volume relatively low, giving a focused, controlled sound rather than a big, sweeping wash. Despite its thin build, the cymbal keeps a noticeable flex when you press on it, without it taking over the overall sound.

Uses

The broad tonal range makes this cymbal versatile across genres: jazz, fusion, world music, pop, rock and studio work.

Craftsmanship

The Byzance series is made at Meinl's Turkish factory using traditional craftsmanship. Each cymbal is cast from B20 alloy (80% copper, 20% tin), heated, rolled and cooled to the correct thickness before the bell is shaped and the cymbal is hand-hammered. After hammering, the cymbals are sent to Meinl's German factory for quality control and finishing. Byzance is also available in the Foundry Reserve, Dual, Traditional, Vintage, Jazz, Extra Dry and Brilliant variants, each with its own sound character and finish.
