The Evans EMAD2 System Pack 22" is a complete bass drum head set, pairing a tunable batter head with a resonant head built to control overtones. It's a solid choice if you want to switch between an open, natural tone and a tight, focused bass drum sound without swapping heads.
The EMAD2 batter head is a single-ply, coated drumhead, giving a drier tone than an uncoated head. What sets the EMAD series apart is the small plastic ring on the head where you fit one of the two included muffle rings. The narrow ring keeps the drum's natural tone while adding focus to the low end. The wide ring hollows out the lower midrange for even more emphasis on the bottom register. Skip the ring altogether and you get the classic, open "felt strip" sound.
The resonant head in the EMAD series is designed to control overtones and the low-end sustain that can otherwise cause feedback, resulting in a clearer tone and attack. The 5" port is strategically placed to make mic placement easier for recording and live use.
