The Meinl Byzance Vintage Pure Light Ride 22" is a hand-hammered ride cymbal in B20 bronze with an unlathed surface that gives it an already "played-in" sound. A great choice for jazz, pop, fusion, latin and similar genres where a controlled, round tone is needed.

The Byzance Vintage series is specially treated to sound already "played-in". Hence the name Vintage. The Pure Ride models are extremely dry with a clean, warm tone and clear attack, yet keep a nice dynamic sing rather than being completely dead. The series comes in 20" and 22", in both medium and light versions. This is the 22" Light.

Construction and Sound

The cymbal is hand-hammered in B20 bronze alloy (80% copper, 20% tin) and features a specially treated, unlathed surface (Dark Raw) on both the top and bottom. The sound character is warm and round with controlled overtones and short sustain. A broad sound spectrum suited to several genres, including jazz, pop, fusion and latin.

Manufacturing

Byzance is made at Meinl's Turkish factory using traditional craftsmanship. Each cymbal is cast from B20 bronze, heated, rolled and cooled following a carefully proven schedule until the correct thickness is achieved, before the bell is shaped and hand-hammering begins. The raw cymbals are then sent to Meinl's German factory for quality control, sorting and finishing. The combination of Turkish craftsmanship and German quality control is behind Byzance's warm sound and consistent quality. The series comes in six variants. Traditional, Vintage, Jazz, Extra Dry, Dark and Brilliant. Each with its own sound characteristics and look.
