The Meinl Byzance Vintage Sand Crash/Ride 22" was designed together with Benny Greb, completing the well-loved Sand Ride and Sand Hi-hat cymbals. The hand-hammered B20 alloy and sand-blasted surface give it a deep, full sound with controlled volume and sustain, while retaining plenty of snap in the top end.

Sound Character

The sand-blasting has an effect similar to gentle playing over a long period of time. The cymbal softens slightly and loses unwanted overtones without losing its snap in the top register. Construction

The cymbal is hand-hammered from B20 alloy (80% copper, 20% tin) with a traditional finish and hand-lathed top and bottom surfaces. The Byzance series is made at Meinl's Turkish factory using traditional craftsmanship, then quality-checked and finished at Meinl's German factory. A process where every step shapes the cymbal's tonal character.
