The Meinl Byzance Raw Bell Ride 22" is a hand-hammered ride cymbal in B20 bronze (80% copper, 20% tin) with an unlathed top and bottom. It delivers a warm, dry, earthy dark tone with short sustain and relatively low volume. But with a slightly louder, more prominent bell than the Dark Ride in the same series.

Craftsmanship

Byzance cymbals are made at Meinl's Turkish factory using traditional handcraft methods. Each cymbal is cast from B20 bronze, then heated, rolled and cooled according to a carefully tested schedule until the correct thickness is reached. The bell is shaped before hand-hammering forms the cymbal's final shape. The raw cymbals are then sent to Meinl's German factory for quality control, sorting and finishing. Such as laser-engraved logos, brilliant finishing or sandblasting. Because no adjustment of weight or tone happens after hammering on the unlathed Dark models, manufacturing demands are especially high. But the result is a considerably warmer sound than similar-looking lathed cymbals.
