22" Meinl Byzance Jazz Tradition Light Ride - Traditional Finish

Product Description

The Meinl Byzance Jazz Tradition Light Ride 22" is a hand-hammered ride cymbal in B20 bronze (80% copper, 20% tin) with a warm tone and pleasantly trashy overtones. Its slightly deep bow shape gives a controlled yet lively ride with musical wash, at home in jazz combos as well as pop, rock, funk, D&B and fusion.

The attack is bright but woody with a deep undertone, and the cymbal feels like a successful blend of crash/ride and flat ride character. Controlled, yet full of life. Sustain and volume sit at a medium level, making it easy to fit into most musical settings without overpowering the mix.

Construction and craftsmanship

The cymbal is cast from B20 bronze and built using traditional craft methods at Meinl's Turkish factory. The cast blank is heated, rolled and cooled according to a carefully proven schedule before the bell is shaped and the cymbal hand-hammered. Both the top and bottom surfaces are hand-lathed, giving the characteristic Traditional finish. Afterward, the cymbals are sent to Meinl's German factory for quality control, sorting and finishing. A process Meinl credits as key to the Byzance line's consistent quality and warm sound.

About the Byzance series

The Byzance Jazz series is characterized by a warm tone and nicely trashy overtones. Tradition Ride is available in two versions: the 22" Ride and the 22" Light Ride (the lighter version described here). The Byzance line as a whole comes in six variants. Traditional, Vintage, Jazz, Extra Dry, Dark and Brilliant. Each with its own sound character and look.

Who It's For

A great ride for players who want a broad sound spectrum that works across genres, from jazz to pop, rock, funk, D&B and fusion, and who like a controlled but lively cymbal character rather than a clean, polished ride sound.
