Instead of committing to one level of damping, the head ships with two interchangeable damping rings, so you can dial in the tone you need for a given song, room, or recording.
The head has a small built-in plastic ring where the damping rings sit. With the narrow damping ring in place, the drum keeps its natural voice while the low end comes more into focus – useful when you still want some resonance but need a tighter bottom. Switch to the wide damping ring and the lower midrange is scooped out further, pushing the focus even more toward the low end for a tighter, more studio-friendly attack. Leave both rings out and you get the classic felt-strip sound.
