The Meinl Byzance Vintage Pure Ride is a 20" ride cymbal, hand-hammered from B20 bronze (80% copper, 20% tin) with a specially treated, unlathed surface that gives it an already "played-in" sound. The cymbal is extremely dry with a clean, warm tone and clear attack, yet still keeps a nice dynamic sing despite the dryness.

Sound character

The Pure Ride cymbals are built to be dry without being dead. The short sustain and controlled overtones let the cymbal sit well in the mix while still keeping a dynamic sing in the attack. The series is available in 20" and 22", in medium and light versions. This one being the light version.

Craftsmanship

Byzance cymbals are made at Meinl's Turkish factory using traditional handcraft methods. Each cymbal is cast from B20 bronze, then heated, rolled and cooled according to a carefully proven schedule until the correct thickness is reached, before the cymbal's bell is shaped and hand-hammering begins. The raw cymbals are then sent to Meinl's German factory for quality control, sorting and finishing. This closed loop between Turkish craftsmanship and German quality control is a key part of Byzance's warm sound and consistently high standard. The series comes in six variants. Traditional, Vintage, Jazz, Extra Dry, Dark and Brilliant. Each with its own sound character and look.
