The Meinl Byzance Sand Ride 20" is a hand-hammered B20 bronze ride cymbal developed together with Benny Greb. Its sandblasted finish gives the cymbal a warm tone with medium sustain and volume, while still allowing it to be crashed without becoming too dark. Sound Character

The sandblasting has a similar effect to years of gentle playing. The cymbal softens slightly and loses unwanted overtones without losing snap in the top end. The result is a ride with a warm tone and clear response, created together with Benny Greb, who wanted a ride that could be crashed while still remaining stable and not too dark.

Manufacturing

The Byzance series is produced in Meinl's Turkish factory using traditional craftsmanship. Each cymbal is cast in B20 alloy, heated, rolled and cooled according to a carefully tested schedule before the bell is shaped and the cymbal is hand-hammered. After hand-lathing, the cymbals are sent to Meinl's German factory for quality control, sorting and finishing. Including the sandblasting that gives the Sand Ride its character.
