20" Meinl Byzance Dark Ride Cymbal

Product Description

The Meinl Byzance Dark Ride 20" is a hand-hammered ride cymbal in B20 bronze with a warm, earthy and dark tone. Its short sustain and relatively low volume make it equally at home in a jazz combo or a rock band.

Byzance Dark is made from hand-hammered B20 alloy, 80% copper and 20% tin, with both the top and bottom left unlathed and raw. This gives it a short, slightly "dirty" sound character that is considerably warmer than its looks suggest, with a clear dark attack that gives the cymbal a wide musical range.

Sound Character

The Dark Ride delivers a clear, dark sound without becoming too washy. It works just as well in a jazz drummer's setup as for the metal player looking for a clear ride sound. The broad sound spectrum suits genres such as jazz, fusion, world music, pop, rock and studio work.

Construction

Byzance is made at Meinl's Turkish factory using traditional craftsmanship. Each cymbal is cast, rolled and cooled to the correct thickness before the bell is shaped and the cymbal is hand-hammered. The raw cymbals are then sent to Meinl's German factory for quality control, sorting and finishing. A process behind Byzance's warm sound and consistent quality.

Who It's For

A good choice if you want a ride with a dark, earthy character and short sustain, whether you play jazz, fusion or rock and want a clear but not overly washy ride sound.
