The Aquarian Studio-X Coated 18" is a single-ply drum head made from 10 mil (0.010") film with a thin internal muffling ring. The muffling removes much of the overtone content while keeping the drum's open sound and warmth intact. It's especially well suited for studio use and close miking.
The combination of a coated 10 mil head and a thin, built-in dampening ring keeps the drum controlled without making it sound dead. Overtones are reduced while the warmth and openness of the fundamental tone remain, which makes this head especially useful when the drum is miked up close.
Sound and Use
The light muffling makes the Studio-X a great choice in the studio, where uncontrolled overtones can otherwise get in the way of a clean recording. At the same time, you don't lose the natural, open character of the drum.
