18" Meinl Byzance Vintage Quick Sand Ride - Sandblasted

Product Description

The Meinl Byzance Vintage 18" Quick Sand Ride is a hand-hammered ride cymbal in B20 bronze with a sandblasted finish, inspired by the jazz and funk sounds of the 70s and 80s. It mimics the well-worn, often repaired cymbals typical of that era, giving it an aged, characterful sound with immaculate clarity. It's a small but effective ride that fits a wide range of genres, including rock, pop, funk, R&B and fusion.

Sound Character

The cymbal has a low, dark and somewhat dry wash that's neither too soft nor too loud, making it suitable for music that doesn't sit at the very top decibel levels. The attack is clean and distinct, with controlled sustain and volume that leave plenty of room without the wash taking over.

Construction and Manufacturing

The Quick Sand Ride is hand-hammered at Meinl's Turkish factory from B20 bronze, 80% copper and 20% tin. The sandblasted finish gives the cymbal a soft feel under the hand and contributes to its modified, vintage-like character. The cymbal is quality-checked and finished at Meinl's German factory before shipping.

The Byzance Series

Byzance cymbals are made at Meinl's Turkish factory using traditional craftsmanship. Each cymbal is cast from B20 bronze, which is heated, rolled and cooled according to a carefully proven schedule before the bell is shaped and the cymbal is hand-hammered. The series is available in several variants. Foundry Reserve, Dual, Traditional, Vintage, Jazz, Extra Dry, Dark and Brilliant. Each with its own sound character and look.

Who It's For

A good choice if you want a smaller ride with vintage character for stage sound in genres like rock, pop, funk, R&B and fusion.
