Why do trash cymbals have holes?
The cut-out holes let the sound move through and leave the cymbal faster, giving a quicker, clearer response and shorter decay. Which makes accents snap faster. The size, shape and placement of the holes also affect how trashy or dark the cymbal ends up sounding.
Construction
The Byzance series is made at Meinl's Turkish factory using traditional craftsmanship. Each cymbal is cast from B20 alloy, then heated, rolled and cooled according to a carefully proven schedule until the right thickness is reached. The bell is shaped before hand-hammering gives the cymbal its final form and voice. Traditional Finish means both the top and bottom are hand-lathed. The raw cymbals are then sent to Meinl's German factory for quality control, sorting and finishing, including laser-engraved logos. This combination of Turkish craftsmanship and German quality control is behind the Byzance series' warm sound and consistent standard.
