18" Istanbul Agop Mel Lewis Signature Crash Cymbal

Product Description

The Mel Lewis Signature Crash is an 18" crash cymbal from Istanbul Agop, modelled directly on jazz drummer Mel Lewis's own cymbals. It offers clear stick definition, and its flatter profile gives it a deeper crash than a typical ride. A great choice if you want a signature cymbal with real history behind it.

Mel Lewis was Istanbul Agop's first endorser. After his death in 1990, and with the blessing of his family, his chosen cymbals were flown back to the factory and used as models for what became his Signature Series. Every detail of the originals was studied and replicated by hand by the company's cymbalsmiths, as a tribute to his legacy.

In practice, that shows up in the response: stick definition stays clear, while the flatter profile lets the cymbal open up into a deeper, more crash-like character than a higher-profile ride. It works well both as a distinct crash and for playing closer to ride territory.
