The Evans EMAD 18" Coated White is a single-ply bass drum head that gives you three distinct tonal characters in one head, thanks to the included muffling rings. The coated surface adds a drier, warmer fundamental tone compared to the clear version, making it a solid choice for a full but controlled bass sound.
The head has a small built-in plastic ring where you place one of the 2 included muffling rings. With the narrow ring, the drum keeps its natural tone but with extra focus on the low end - a good option if you want to retain most of the shell's own character.
Switch to the wide ring and it hollows out the lower midrange, giving even more focus to the bottom end and a tighter, more studio-friendly sound. Run the head with no ring at all and you get the classic "felt strip sound" familiar from many older recordings.
