Sound Character

The sandblasting has a similar effect to years of gentle playing: the cymbal softens slightly and loses unwanted overtones without losing snap in the top end. The result is a deep, washy sound with relatively low, controlled volume. Darker and more subdued than a standard Byzance crash. The 18" sounds dark and washy, and pairs excellently with the other Vintage crashes in the range, available in 16", 20" and 22".

About Byzance

Byzance is made in Meinl's Turkish factory using traditional craftsmanship. Each cymbal is cast from B20 bronze, heated, rolled and cooled through a carefully proven process before the bell is shaped and the cymbal is hand-hammered. Series with a lathed surface are then hand-lathed before being shipped to Germany for quality control, sorting and finishing such as laser logo, brilliant finish or sandblasting. Byzance comes in six variants. Traditional, Vintage, Jazz, Extra Dry, Dark and Brilliant. Each with unique sound and look.
