Craftsmanship

Byzance is produced at Meinl's Turkish factory using traditional craftsmanship. Each cymbal is cast from B20 bronze, then heated, rolled and cooled following a carefully proven schedule until the correct thickness is reached. The bell is shaped before hand-hammering forms the cymbal, and models with a lathed surface are then hand-lathed before being sent to Germany. Every step in this process shapes the cymbal's sound character, which is why, for example, a 16" Thin Crash is produced using a different pattern than a Heavy Crash in the same series.

The raw cymbals are then sent to Meinl's German factory for quality control, sorting and various finishing processes such as laser logo engraving, brilliant finish or sandblasting.
