The Meinl Byzance Extra Thin Hammered Crash is an extremely thin and lightweight 18" crash cymbal, hand-hammered from B20 bronze (80% copper, 20% tin). The large hammer marks give it a dark, trashy sound with perfect sustain – a warm, soft-spoken crash with an old-school character.

Sound Character

The low weight combined with heavy hammering gives this cymbal an open, dark, slightly trashy voice. Sustain is long but never unruly, and playing dynamics let you shape both tone and volume just by how hard you strike it – from a whisper to a full wash.

Construction and Manufacturing

Made in Meinl's Turkish factory using traditional craftsmanship. The B20 bronze (80% copper, 20% tin) is cast, heated, rolled and cooled through a carefully proven process until the right thickness is reached. The bell is shaped before hand-hammering forms the cymbal, and the top and bottom surfaces are then hand-lathed in the traditional finish. The raw cymbals are shipped to Meinl's German factory for quality control, sorting and finishing – a process that's key to the Byzance line's warm, consistent sound.
