18" Meinl Byzance Crash
Product Description
The Meinl Byzance Extra Dry Thin Crash 18" is a hand-hammered B20 bronze cymbal with a dark, dry, slightly lo-fi tone. Its thin build gives a short sustain and dynamic response, making it equally at home in the studio and on stage.
- Hand-hammered B20 alloy. 80% copper, 20% tin
- Extra Dry finish with a raw, unlathed top and lathed bottom
- Short sustain and relatively low volume
- Warm, dry, earthy tone character
Sound and Feel
The Extra Dry series has a distinct personality with a dark, pitched-down, slightly lo-fi sound. Thanks to the thin build, the crash has a short sustain and can even be played as a soft ride, where the dynamics of your playing control how much wash comes through. The round tone and pleasant transients make it especially useful in mic'd situations, since the sound doesn't easily bleed into the wrong microphones.
Construction and Manufacturing
The cymbal is made at Meinl's Turkish factory using traditional craftsmanship. The cast blank is heated, rolled and cooled according to a carefully proven schedule before the bell is shaped and hand hammering begins. The cymbal is then quality-checked and finished at Meinl's German factory. A process that's key to the Byzance series' warm sound and consistent quality.
Who It's For
The Extra Dry Thin Crash suits players in jazz, fusion, world music, pop and other styles where a dark, dry tone with short sustain and good dynamic range is called for. Live and in the studio.
