Construction

The cymbals are hand-hammered from B20 bronze (80% copper, 20% tin) and hand-lathed on both the top and bottom. They are made at Meinl's Turkish factory using traditional craftsmanship, then quality-checked and finished at Meinl's German facility.

Sound

The cymbals have a warm sound character with low volume and a full attack. Their broad sound spectrum suits several genres, including jazz, funk, reggae, studio, world, and electro.

About Byzance

Byzance cymbals are made at Meinl's Turkish factory using traditional craftsmanship shaped by deep skill and pride in the trade. Each cymbal is cast from B20 bronze (80% copper, 20% tin). The cast blank is heated, rolled, and cooled according to a carefully proven schedule until the correct thickness is reached. The bell is then shaped before hand-hammering begins to form the cymbal. Series with a lathed surface are hand-lathed before being sent to Germany. Every step in this process has a decisive effect on the cymbal's sound character and properties.

The raw cymbals are sent to Meinl's German factory for quality control, sorting, and finishing processes such as laser logo, brilliant finish, and sandblasting. The closed loop between Turkish craftsmanship and German quality control and finishing is key to Byzance's warm sound and consistently high standard.

Byzance is available in several series. Foundry Reserve, Dual, Traditional, Vintage, Jazz, Extra Dry, Dark, and Brilliant. Each with unique sound properties and appearance.
