18"/16" Meinl Matt Garstka Fat Stack
Product Description
The Matt Garstka Fat Stack is a cymbal stack developed together with drummer Matt Garstka as part of Meinl's Artist Concept series. The top cymbal is an 18" Byzance and the bottom is a 16" Byzance, both vented for a distinct, dry sound. The result is a fat, clear attack that cuts through the mix without being harsh on the ears.
The Artist Concept series is built on sounds developed together with Meinl's own artists, so each model becomes a voice created within a real musical context. The Fat Stack is a good example: the holes in both cymbals give a shorter, drier sound that still cuts through without becoming unpleasantly sharp.
How Matt uses it
Matt Garstka describes the stack himself: "It functions in my set-up mainly as timekeeper, but it also works extremely well with choppy accents." Those choppy accents are something he uses a lot, and the Fat Stack is built to respond quickly and clearly to exactly that kind of playing.
Who It's For
A great choice if you want a stack with a clear, dry attack that works both as a rhythmic element and for short, distinct accents, without becoming too dominant in the mix.
