Sound Character

The vintage sand-blasted surface has a similar effect to years of gentle playing. The cymbal softens slightly and loses unwanted overtones without losing snap in the top end. The result is an enormous sound spectrum, from soft lo-fi tones to more aggressive blow-fi territory, making it interesting for cymbal enthusiasts across genres.

Construction

The Byzance series is made in Meinl's Turkish factory using traditional craftsmanship. The B20 bronze is cast, heated, rolled and cooled according to a carefully tested schedule until the correct thickness is reached. The cymbal's bell is shaped before hand-hammering begins, and the surface is hand-lathed before the cymbal is sent to Germany for quality control, sorting and finishing. In this case sand-blasting for the Vintage finish. This process means, for example, that a 16" Thin Crash is made to a different pattern than the equivalent Heavy Crash.

Who It's For

The Trash Crash suits players who want a shorter, more textured crash sound that still blends into the mix rather than a pure china effect. Also available in 18" and 20".
