The Byzance series is cast from B20 bronze alloy, 80% copper and 20% tin, and hand-hammered to shape the cymbal's tone. The Jazz series is dark and thin with a beautiful tone and good durability despite the thin build. The Extra Thin version is even thinner and more fragile than the series' standard models, giving a soft, delicate sound with medium sustain and volume.

Construction and Manufacturing

The cymbal is made at Meinl's Turkish factory using traditional craftsmanship. The cast blank is heated, rolled and cooled following a carefully proven schedule until the correct thickness is reached, before the bell is shaped and hand-hammering begins. Byzance Jazz has a traditional finish with a hand-lathed top and underside. The cymbals are then sent to Meinl's German factory for quality control, sorting and finishing, part of the recipe behind Byzance's warm sound and consistent quality.
