Product Description
The Evans EMAD BD16EMAD is a 16" Clear bass drum head with a built-in damping system and a wide bearing edge fit, made for compact kits with traditional BD tension hoops. EMAD gives your bass drum a bigger, fuller, fatter sound right out of the box, and thanks to Level 360 technology the head sits flat against the shell from the start, so there's no critical break-in period before it sounds right.
The head is built from a single 10 mil film layer and ships with two interchangeable muffling rings, letting you change the tone quickly and easily.
The EMAD concept
The two muffling rings let you switch between three distinct sounds: the wide ring gives a fat, hammock-style low end, the narrow ring opens the tone up a bit more, and running with no ring at all gives a more classic, open Bonham-style thump. Just swap rings depending on what the song or genre calls for.
What is Level 360?
Level 360 is Evans' term for the head's shape, which makes it significantly easier to tune than many other brands. The head sits flat against the drum shell and delivers full sound as soon as it's mounted, without the usual break-in period before a head has "settled".
Two versions – pick the right hoop fit
EMAD comes in two versions depending on your bass drum's tension hoop type. TT16EMAD fits 16" bass drums with standard tom-style tension hoops (e.g. Tama Metro-Jam up to 2014). BD16EMAD, the version listed here, has a wider bearing edge fit for traditional BD tension hoops, such as Lazer Junior kits, Ludwig Break-Beat, and the 2015 Tama Metro-Jam. Check your drum's hoop type before ordering.
