Background

The Dual cymbals in the Byzance line started as prototypes shown only online. The response was so positive that Meinl decided to bring Dual into the regular lineup. The result is a hi-hat that combines two finishes and two processing techniques in one cymbal, giving both stability for comping and life for accents.

Sound and Feel

The thicker center gives a controlled, stable sound suited to light hi-hat riding, while the thinner, lathed edge lets the hi-hat open up easily for a trashy crash sound with short sustain. Construction

Byzance cymbals are made at Meinl's Turkish factory using traditional hand-hammering methods. Each cymbal is cast from B20 bronze (80% copper, 20% tin), heated, rolled and cooled according to a carefully proven schedule until the correct thickness is reached, before the bell is shaped and the cymbal is hand-hammered. The raw cymbals are then shipped to Meinl's German factory for quality control, sorting and finishing. Including laser-engraved logos, brilliant finish and sandblasting. It's the combination of Turkish craftsmanship and German finishing that gives Byzance its warm, consistent tone.
