Product Description

The Meinl Byzance Sand Hi-Hat 14" is a hand-hammered hi-hat in B20 bronze, developed together with Benny Greb. The sand-blasted finish gives it a softened vintage character with a clear attack and well-controlled sustain and volume. It's a natural companion to the Sand Ride and Sand Crash in the same series, suited for rock, pop, blues, fusion, jazz, world, and electro, in the studio and on stage.

Sound Character

The sand-blasting has a similar effect as years of gentle playing. The cymbal softens slightly and loses unwanted overtones without losing snap in the top end. The result is a deep, full sound with controlled volume and a sustain that gives great dynamic range.

Construction

Byzance cymbals are cast from B20 alloy, 80% copper and 20% tin, and made using traditional craftsmanship at Meinl's Turkish factory. The cast blank is heated, rolled, and cooled to the correct thickness before the cymbal is hand-hammered. The raw cymbals are then sent to Meinl's German factory for quality control, sorting, and finishing. In this case, sand-blasting.

Who It's For

A great choice if you want a vintage-voiced hi-hat with controlled dynamics and a clear attack, whether played acoustically or mic'd up in the studio.
