Sound Character

Byzance Dark has a distinct personality compared to the traditional Byzance series: the character is a bit harder and sharper, with a short, earthy, dark tone. Despite its raw character, it works well both in the studio and live.

Craftsmanship

Byzance cymbals are made at Meinl's Turkish factory using traditional hand-crafting methods. Each cymbal is cast from B20 alloy (80% copper, 20% tin), heated, rolled and cooled following a carefully tested schedule until the correct thickness is reached. The bell is shaped before hand-hammering gives the cymbal its final form. The raw cymbals are then sent to Meinl's German factory for quality control, sorting and finishing. It's the combination of Turkish craftsmanship and German quality control that defines Byzance's warm sound and consistent standard.
