The Evans Hydraulic Black is a two-ply, oil-filled drum head in black, built for a fat, compressed sound with plenty of built-in dampening. The oil layer between the two plies removes much of the overtone content, giving a full, controlled tone even when the head is tuned very low.
The double-ply hydraulic construction dampens itself naturally, so you don't need to add extra muffling on top. The result is a thick, compressed tone with short sustain and a focused, direct attack. Many players reach for the Hydraulic series when they want a studio-ready sound straight out of the box.
The black coating gives the drum a distinct look on the kit, while the tone stays full and warm even at low tunings where thinner heads tend to lose body.
