The Evans Hydraulic Red is a two-ply oil head with a red translucent film and small oil dots between the plies. Together they give you control and a short, full sound straight out of the box, without needing extra muffling.
Compared with its sister heads Hydraulic Glass, Blue and Black, the Red Hydraulic feels a touch more open in the attack and carries more energy in the stroke. The tone is just as compressed and fat, and the head still delivers a clear thud even when the drum is tuned low and slack.
The gold logo is a clear nod to 70s glitter and glamour, but the sound is every bit as serious today as it was then. A good choice if you want a head with real character and a short, punchy attack – well suited to rock, pop and studio work where you want a finished sound without much fuss.
The series is available in tom sizes from 6" to 20", as well as bass drum heads in 20" and 22", so you can head your whole kit within the same family.
