12" Meinl Byzance Extra Dry Splash

Product Description

The Meinl Byzance Extra Dry Splash 12" is a hand-hammered splash cymbal in B20 bronze with a dark, dry sound and short sustain. The raw, unlathed top surface gives it a slightly lo-fi, pitched-down character that cuts through without sounding harsh.

The Extra Dry series has a strong personality of its own. These thin splashes respond quickly, with a short, dry sound that still carries. They're playable enough to even be struck by hand, not just with a stick.

Thanks to their round tone and forgiving transients, Extra Dry cymbals rarely bleed into the "wrong" microphones, making them a solid choice for studio and heavily mic'd situations. The broad sound spectrum works well across genres such as jazz, fusion, world music, pop and studio recording.

Construction and manufacturing

The cymbal is hand-hammered from B20 bronze alloy. 80% copper and 20% tin. The top surface is left raw and unlathed while the underside is lathed, giving it the characteristic Extra Dry surface. The cymbals are cast and hammered in Meinl's Turkish factory using traditional craftsmanship, then sent to Meinl's German factory for quality control and finishing.

Who it's for

A good choice if you want a splash with more character than a classic bright splash. Especially for jazz, fusion or world music, or if you need a cymbal that behaves well in the studio mic.
